Girls have fun...even when the heavens are stacked against them

A girls day out, seems a simple enough idea, doesn't it. But it didn't turn out simple, as nothing went smoothly. It was a last little treat before travelling. (One of many, I may add) You know, four girls together, a meal, a trot around, fossicking. Firstly, the weather went from warm....humid even, to chilly, and wet. Very wet! All ready for the sun, and dressed for the sun, off we set. We were optimistic I suppose, as the rain had already begun. We just assumed it would clear up, as it often does this time of the year. No..it kept going, and got harder.
Delays were first, my partner, bound for the same destination, helpfully, cleared the car. In the process removing my swimming bag with my makeup in it. Which, meant, there was no way I could complete my face! He, man like, couldn't see the problem, but I was upset. Frustration number two, as I was already quite damp from running in and out of the car, doing little jobs around town. Then, my son, collecting us at the other end, demanded, (by Facebook,) full details of the flight. Although I thought I had sent enough. Number three, going back to the house to get tickets, made us late arriving at my friends house.
She, assuming  we were going to be much later, took off to do a quick shop. A top up of paint the builder needed, she said. Frustration four, she was held up, waylaid, or whatever....shopping. Arriving back, an hour late. Frustration five, my partner started work on her bathroom, wearing his new jacket, and trousers, next time I looked he was covered in white, and we travel tomorrow. Six, I bit! opened my mouth, and it wasn't appreciated, so he bit back, in front of everyone, both too mad, to shut up..strains of travel. After which, my friend arrived back, we other girls, in an effort to hurry her, went to sit in the car. Frustration seven, her partner, decided to disagree with a major purchase she made whilst out, and a domestic ensued over the phone, all of us, in car, sitting in the drive. Only half resolved, but left for resolution later in the day. Her control was obviously better than mine when a confrontation with her partner crops up.
All anxious to begin the day at last, and get on to lunch. We agreed on what to do, and where to go, no disagreements.....good. Seated in a favourite eatery, we ordered hot, and cold drinks,as we fancied. When it arrived, all the orders got muddled, number eight. First, the waitress gave everyone the wrong drinks, which a took a while to sort out. Determined to enjoy it, we laughed, and swapped them around. Then, everyone got the wrong meals, not quite as muddled, but confusing, calling one thing, another, and confusing further, the already confused. Half way through the meal, nine, there was lots of clattering behind us, arms, and pepper grinder over the back of the couch, as the waitress fell in a heap, on the floor, behind the couch. "Lucky I wasn't carrying plates" she's said later. We thought so too, or we would have been wearing it. It would have been a BIG TEN.
After that, things looked up, we went to the shops. Craft shop first, great stuff, very interesting. I could have bought lots, but knowing my cases are already maxed out. Resisted, but vowed to go more often, not been in a craft shop for years. Then on to a dress shop, where I 'window shopped' for years, never bought anything. Not this trip though. Sort of ten, everything in there, was my colour, my design, and mostly was on my wish list because I looked for just those kind of things all my time away. It's a ten, because I spent my clothes money on 'make do' stuff. So...no more money to spend there. See what I mean? It's a ten isn't it?
However, it was not all bad news, because my friend bought me a lovely early Christmas/ leaving present. Then I found a couple of nice things on the very cheap 'sale' rail. Things I snatched up quickly. I also took the web address...who knows? I could win the lotto this week.
Yippee.....ending up winning the day after all.
To top off a difficult day, when we got back to my brothers, where we are staying the last night, my sister in law had made us a wonderful hot, and steaming curry. Just the job to warm you up after a soggy day in the rain....
Just goes to show, never give in....you can turn a bad day around!
